Visitor Facilities

According to the 1991 edition of Alaska Wilderness Milepost, Saint Michael has no hotel or restaurant facilities. Arrangements for accommodations at the school or in private homes can sometimes be made by contacting the school principal (907-923-3041) or the city office (907-923-3211). There is a washeteria. Supplies are available in the community as are fishing and hunting licenses.

The Wilderness Milepost also notes that Saint Michael residents harvest sea mammals, including seals and beluga whales and that moose and caribou are important winter staples. Summer fishing provides salmon, whitefish, tomcod and herring. Waterfowl, particularly ducks and geese are hunted in nearby marshes. The tundra yields salmonberries, blackberries, blueberries, raspberries and cranberries.
